On 28 October 2026, both AFC Ajax and FC Bayern München announced a match at the 60,000-seat Raila Odinga International Stadium in Nairobi on 5 January 2027. Bayern says ticket sales start on 5 November 2026 and the match will be shown on ProSieben and FC Bayern TV PLUS. The Talanta Sports City event page lists the same date.
President William Ruto was reported as saying corporate partners would sponsor the event. Reports published on 30 and 31 October 2026 said the detailed match budget, sponsor contributions and projected revenue had not been publicly broken down. The Interior Cabinet Secretary was reported as offering Government support for security, immigration and travel facilitation, but the cost of those services was not stated. This is what remains unclear in the sources linked below; it does not prove that public money is being used.

The match is announced by both clubs. The questions on this page concern the event’s detailed finances, the public services being provided, stadium readiness and benefits for Kenyan football. Asking those questions does not mean that public spending or a rights violation has already been proved.

These figures describe stadium construction funding and the construction contract. They must not be added to, or described as, the January match budget.
On 1 October 2026, a Senate committee inspected the stadium. Project officials reported the main stadium at about 94% complete and external works at 93%. The committee also recorded outstanding access, transport, crowd-management and operational issues.

The percentages describe the position reported at that inspection. They are not a statement of the stadium’s final condition on 5 January 2027. A current readiness inspection is needed closer to the event.
Who is organising the match, what each party has agreed to do, and which parts of the agreement can be published?
What are the expected costs, who pays each cost, and what income is expected from sponsors, tickets, hospitality and broadcasting?
Are appearance fees or other payments agreed? If so, what can the clubs and organisers disclose?
Which public agencies are providing security, immigration, transport, travel or other support, and which office is meeting each cost?
What checks will confirm that the venue is accessible, safe and ready for spectators, including persons with disabilities?
What lasting, measurable benefits will reach Kenyan clubs, players, coaches, academies and fans?
Article 35 of the Constitution protects access to information. Article 37 protects the right to assemble, demonstrate, picket and present petitions peacefully and unarmed.
These rights matter when public bodies plan a major event and when members of the public ask questions or express criticism. Past reports about police conduct and protest-related deaths provide context. They do not prove that a rights violation will take place at the January match.
